The team at Dogs Trust Loughborough are hoping that it will be the case of new year, new start for a dog who needs to find a home with a canine companion, as well as friends of the two-legged kind.
Foxhound Groot arrived at the rehoming centre in April last year but is still waiting to find his forever family. Now two, Groot is described by the rehoming centre team as the ‘adorable class clown’ as he always makes them smile, which has been particularly welcome in recent months.
Celine Di Crocco, Manager of Dogs trust Loughborough, says:
“Despite the pandemic it’s always business as usual as far as our dogs are concerned with walks, playtime, training and treats the order of the day; they are a joy to be with. Their tails never stop wagging and every day they give us a reason to smile, particularly Groot who can be a very giddy boy.
“He is never happier than when he is with other dogs so we are definitely looking for a home with a four-legged friend who can show him the ropes and help him settle in. He is gaining in confidence every day and once he gets to know you, you’ve a friend for life.”
In 2020, the team found forever homes for more than 460 dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages with Greyhounds, Crossbreeds and Jack Russells being the top three breeds cared for by the team. 88 dogs also continued to enjoy their home comforts thanks to the centre’s volunteer foster carers who cared for dogs until the time was right for them to find new families too.
Celine says:
“Nobody could have predicted the challenges faced in 2020, but thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery whose support helps to fund some of our wonderful Canine Carers at the centre, our dogs always have everything they need whilst they are with us.
“As ever, this year we want to change the tale for all the dogs that find themselves in need of a new home and we know that with the support of the dog-loving public, we will be able to do that. We really hope it won’t be too long before Groot is one of those dogs who finds the family he deserves.”
Groot can live with young adults aged 15 years and over and he will need a secure garden with high fences in a quiet, semi-rural area. He would also like an area of the house to be a place he can call his own. Groot will need to meet his family at the rehoming centre a few times before heading home so he can build a bond with them. This isn’t possible currently due to the national lockdown, but please contact the centre if you think you could be the one to give Groot his ideal home.
