Vegan dog food brand, Omni smashes £400K crowdfunding target in 15 minutes as pet nutrition industry continues to demonstrate recession-proof growth

One of the UK’s fastest growing vegan pet food brands, Omni, has launched a record breaking crowd-funding campaign. The brand, which is one of the first UK, Vet-founded plant-based pet food brands, has set a new record in its category, having overfunded yesterday within 15 minutes of going live on the Seedrs platform. Omni has seen 30% average month-on-month revenue growth since launching in May 2021 with over 70% of its customers on subscription plans. Consumers have been offered an investment opportunity for as little as £11.

Their founders, a highly regarded veterinary surgeon Dr. Guy Sandelowsky and ex-investment Banker, Shiv Sivakumar, have taken a science-backed, health first approach to the business - in which they are proud to work closely with Nottingham Vet School and various reputable experts in the field of veterinary nutrition.

Plant-based pet food can contain more protein than meat-based pet foods, and is lower in fat. And with 20% of the world’s meat and fish consumed by pets, cutting down on the farmed meat in the pet food industry would have a positive planetary impact. Feeding a dog a typical meat diet creates the same carbon emissions as driving a Land Cruiser SUV all year round.

Omni sold over half a millions meals in 2022 and enjoys industry-leading post trial retention metrics. It’s viewed by many as a leader in the plant-based pet food space which is estimated to be worth £18 billion globally by 2028. The new campaign will fund the brands aggressive expansion plans which include R&D into fibrous plant-based meat products that look just like chicken, beef and lamb as well as expansion into the German market.

“Omni would not be in the strong position it is in today without the support and loyalty of our community of veggies, vegans and flexitarians, who love their dogs but want to do better for their health and the planet. Giving them an opportunity to own a share of our business just feels like the right thing to do and the right moment too – we are so proud to have been overfunded in just 15 minutes since going public with the campaign. This really shows the appetite for investments in the recession-proof pet food category, especially in the alternative protein space. The more we overfund, the quicker we can address our other long term objectives like entering the cat market with innovative new products.” commented Dr. Guy Sandelowsky, Co-founder of Omni.

The raise will be live until mid February, giving private investors the opportunity to buy shares in the business via the Omni campaign page

paper was recently published in a peer-reviewed journal, to show that dogs eating the Omni diet for up to a year seemed to experience a variety of health benefits including improved stool consistency, less itching, and better coat quality. This follows research coming from the US, that showed dogs on a plant-based diet like Omni, could live up to 18 months longer. The brand also claims that most dogs in their taste test trials chose Omni over various popular meat-based products on the market.
